Changes of name when remarrying.

Changes of name when remarrying.
I am using RM4.0.3.0
How do I do this?
Say I have a John Smith who marries Marian Brown. Her maiden name as Marian Brown is automatically entered into the RootsMagic database. Some years later, John Smith having died, she remarries to James Martin. RootsMagic still thinks she is Marian Brown and the database does not have the Marian Smith name listed. Therefore there is no connection of the new Mrs. Marian Martin to her previous husband and family.
Anyone help please?
Jack

RE: Changes of name when remarrying.
There will be a connection so long as you have linked the two individuals.

To find a person using an alternative married name click "Search" - "Person list" then click "Namefind". You can then enter the persons forename and married name.

Married names are basically seen as an alternative name to the persons maiden name.

Thanks for that. However the woman in question shows up in Roots Explorer under her maiden name and Explorer shows the names and details of both her first and second husbands. If I enter her first or second married name I get a box telling me no match found. Yet if I attempt to "Add spouse" I'm informed she is already linked to each husband.
It just seems strange that her second husband married her and yet her first married name is not used, just her original maiden name.

Any advice welcomed.

RE: Changes of name when remarrying.
It is normal to always record any women by their maiden names (not only in RootsMagic).

When you search make sure you have the forename in the top box and the married name in the bottom. Even if the attached spouses do not have a marriage fact you will get a positive search result.

If you still have problems then create a descendant wall chart to make sure that both spouses are displayed. If they aren't then your spouses aren't linked as they should be.
