Occasional problem with Narrative Reports

Occasional problem with Narrative Reports
Just a rather minor problem, but one that is a littlel irritating.
Sometimes when I try to view a Narrative Report all I get is one sheet that only has the Header and Title -no details of the family. I reported this when I was doing pre-release beta testing of RM4 and it did seem to have been resolved with the full release.

However, it has been happening again. I found that selecting a Family Groupt sheet usuelly worked and then selecting the Narrative Report again does the trick, but not always. Sometimes it wiull only work after selectring an Individual Summary, sometimes only after selectimg one or the either 2 or 3 times.

Usually the Narrative Report works forst time. It is just on a few occasions that it does not. Even closing RM4 and opening it agin does not resolve the problem.

I have tried to see if there is anything that might cause this problem, but can see nothing obvious.

Any ideas on this?

RE: Occasional problem with Narrative Reports
Do you know which exact steps lead to this issue as I have not been able to recreate the problem?

This is the procedure:-

I select a person (father or mother), select Reports - Narrative Reports.
I check that I have the correct name, that I have selected an option under Descendants, checked other options are correct then click on Generate Report. Usualy I get a correct Narrative Report with no problems. Very occasionaly I get a blank sheet. I check Settings and try again with the same result. Sometimes I have tried 5/6 times. If I then change to a Family Group Reoport or Individual Summary they are O.K. and then trying the Narrative again produces a proper report.

I have not been able to create this deliberately and have not spotted anything unusual. Sometimes it has happened after amending some detail(s) for the selected person (or family member) or adding a new fact, but not always. It has also happened when no changes have been made. At first I thought I had selected one or more incorrect options, but could see nothing obvious.

What puzzles me is why simply selecting a Family Group Report or Individual Summary then selecting the Narrative Report again without making any changes should make any difference, but this always results in the Narrative being generated correctly.

If I do spot anything I will let you know. In the meantime I am still trying to create it deliberately without success.

RE: Occasional problem with Narrative Reports
After a spell of not having a problem with Narrative Reports, the problem has returned.

At first I thought it may have something to do with having edited a person, but starting the report with a later generation this does not seem to be the cause as the problem is still there.

After generating several Family Group and/or Ondividual Summaries it will generate the \Narrative Report.

However, I have noticed that the problem is ONLY with Register and Modified Register Reports. The Outline, etc., Reports will always generate straight away.

Still baffled and still unable to spot any conclusive reason for this problem.

RE: Occasional problem with Narrative Reports
I have not had any problem with Narrative Reports for some time, but yesterday I had a problem and think I have now spotted a possible cause.

I had been making additions and making amendments to various people and after checking some people to make sure that a shared sentence was correct ,viewed a report for the family to check that it read correctly.

I spotted some errors on one family member - closed the report made the amendments and attempted to run a Narrative Report for that one person. The report was now blank.

I closed the report, had a look at the person and then ran the report again (just for this one person). Now it showed correctly. I spotted one or two other errors so corrected these and once again the report was blank. I closed the report opened the person, closed without making any changes and the report was once again correct.

I tried this several times with various people and the result was the same - add new information or correct something and running a report immediately afterwards produced a blank page.

I tried opening a person making an amendment, closing, reopening and closing again without making any changes and the report appeared correctly.

So it would definitely seem to revolve around running a Narrative report immediately after making changes to a person.
