Problem on closing Rootsmagic 4
I have recently bought a new laptop with windows Vista and successfully installed Rootsmagic 4. However on closing down Rootsmagic a dialog box with 'There was a problem saving the application preferences C:programdata/Rootsmagic/version4/RootsmagicApp.xm' appears. Please could someone tell me why and what I need to do to put it right.
Mant thanks

RE: Problem on closing Rootsmagic 4
Firstly, make sure you have downloaded and installed the latest update.
If that does not fix the issue then make sure you ad RootsMagic to the safe list on your firewall. |

RE: Problem on closing Rootsmagic 4
I am having the same problem...
I have just bought the program and installed from CD. I have also downloaded and installed the latest 4.0.5 version and the problem is still here. I get the error message when I start the program and when I close it. When I start the program I get the 'Welcome to RootsMagic' prompt. I choose to 'Unlock the Full Version' and enter my Name and Key, and press the Unlock button. Then I get the error message: RootsMagic 4 There was a problem savingthe application preferences. C:\ProgramData\RootsMagic\Version 4\RootsmagicApp.xml When I close the application, after the backup completes successfully I get the same error message. Note: because it can't save my preferences (including install code) I get prompted for the key every time I startup! I am running Windows Vista Business, Service Pack 2. Any ideas??? Thanks, Stephen. |

RE: Problem on closing Rootsmagic 4
Try disabling any security software.
You could also try right-clicking on the program shortcut, selecting "properties" - "Compatability" and selecting "Run as administrator". |

RE: Problem on closing Rootsmagic 4
Interesting...
I disabled "User Account Control" security (which Windows doesn't like me doing and shows as being a Security Alert!) Hey Presto - the problem has gone away! Thanks for your help DrRoots. Cheers, Stephen. |
